Trauma Informed Oregon (TIO) respects the privacy of the visitors and users of this website. We want you to understand the types of information we collect and what we do with that information.

This Privacy Policy is the overall Agreement between you and TIO. TIO uses WordPress, various WordPress plugins, Knack, and Brevo as a part of the website. TIO is not responsible for those third parties’ terms of use, privacy policies and/or practices. Please read WordPress’ privacy policy for more information.

If you are visiting TIO from outside of the United States, please be advised that your information will be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States where our servers are located and our central database is operated. The data protection and other laws of the United States might not be as comprehensive as those in your country. Please be assured that we seek to take reasonable steps to ensure that your privacy is protected. By using TIO, you consent to the transfer of your information to our facilities.

Who are we?

Trauma Informed Oregon (TIO) is a collaboration of university, public and private partners, individuals with lived experience, youth and family members that are committed to creating and sustaining a trauma informed system of care in Oregon. TIO is a project of the Regional Research Institute for Human Services as Portland State University. In this policy “TIO”, “we”, “us”, or “our” refers to TIO as a project of the Regional Research Institute for Human Services at Portland State University.

TIO does not knowingly collect personal information (defined under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA) from children under the age of 13. TIO requests that children under the age of 13 not submit any personal information in public spaces such as comments on the blog or posts in the forum. TIO does not knowingly use or distribute personal information regarding children. If TIO obtains actual knowledge that it has collected personal information about a child under the age of 13, that information will be immediately deleted.

Your rights

You have a right to be forgotten and have all of your data deleted permanently from the website and newsletter. Keep in mind that this does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We obtain information about you from the following places:

  • TIO website
  • Emails to
  • TIO Talk, our email newsletter
  • Registration for TIO trainings or courses on the TIO website

All of the information collected is used to provide the resources we have available on the website, in the TIO Talk email newsletter, and at trainings. Following is a more detailed list of places on the TIO website that we collect your information, why we collect it, where it’s sent and stored, and how long the information is retained. Contact forms

We want to be available to you at all times so we have a contact form on the Contact page of the site where users can submit questions to us. All data submitted through the contact form on the site are emailed to over a secure network. Only TIO staff have access to these emails. Submitted information is stored indefinitely on the email account but can be deleted by emailing us at

Email newsletter subscribe form

We use Brevo to send out our bi-monthy email newsletter, the Trauma Informed Oregon Talk. This newsletter is managed and sent out using Brevo. When you subscribe to the newsletter we collect your name and email and retain it as long as you are subscribed. Users can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link in the footer of each newsletter. Please read Brevo’s privacy policy for more information.

Trainer Database

To help you find trainers specializing in trauma informed care around Oregon, we have the Trainer Database on the TIO website. To be displayed in the Trainer Database we collect your name, email, city, and information about the trainings you want to have included in the database. All submitted data is retained indefinitely but can be exported and removed by emailing You can login to your account on the Trainer Database to update your information, but you do need to email us in order to delete your profile and all submitted information. We use Knack to host the Trainer Database. Please read Knack’s privacy policy for more information.

Training Modules

Learners who register for the Intro to Trauma Informed Care online Training Modules submit their name and email address, which will be output on their Completion Certificate upon completing the course. In order to distinguish individual users, your IP address is collected and stored with the responses you submit to the quiz. These results are occasionally used for analytic purposes so that we can continue to improve the Training Modules. When this data is collected it is separated from the user’s name and email address and only collected in aggregate. Your email address and knowledge check/quiz results are stored indefinitely on the backend of the site so that we can re-send the results to you if you need them. This information can be deleted at any time by emailing us at

Training the Trainer Application

To select individuals for TIO’s occasional Train the Trainer cohorts we request that users fill out an application on the TIO website. The information included in the application is sent to the email address. Only TIO staff and consultants have access to this email account and see the contents of the application. Submitted information is stored indefinitely on the email account but can be deleted by emailing us at

Events Calendar

To help plan trainings, TIO uses Gravity Forms for registration. When you register for a TIO event, we collect your first name, last name, email address, job title, and organization. This is so that we can be in touch with you about the event via email, and make nametags for the event when the event is in-person. This information is stored indefinitely but can deleted by emailing

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites such as Vimeo behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Use of cookies

Like many websites, this website uses cookies. ‘Cookies’ are small pieces of data sent from a website that you visit and stored on your computer by your web browser while you browse the Internet. Like many other websites, we use Google Analytics cookies to track user interaction with the site. We collect information about which pages are most frequently visited, by which types of users and from which places, however, this information will not identify you personally. We gather this information so that we can continue to improve the TIO website and provide tools and resources that are useful and popular. The TIO website contains links to other sites. TIO is not responsible for the privacy policies of websites and services to which TIO links, or of which TIO are a part. If you provide any information to such third parties different rules regarding the collection and use of your personal information may apply. We strongly suggest you review such third party’s privacy policies before providing any data to them. Our privacy policy only governs information collected through TIO.

How we protect your data

Data breaches

Because TIO is a part of the Regional Research Institute for Human Services at Portland State University, in the event of a data breach TIO will reach out to Portland State University’s Chief Information Security Officer. We will also be in touch with our legal team and will reach out to users within 72 hours of becoming aware of a data breach.


TIO takes commercially reasonable security measures to help ensure data privacy and security including various hardware and software methodologies and internal reviews. To provide extra security we use Secure Socket Layers (SSL), the industry standard for protecting private information sent over the Internet. However, due to the open communication nature of the Internet, we cannot guarantee that communications between you and TIO or any information provided to us in connection with TIO will be free from unauthorized access by third parties. Visitors to TIO use it at their own risk. TIO cannot guarantee the security of any information that is disclosed online. In light of the above and because of the complex and constantly changing nature of our business, and the security risks associated with using the Internet, TIO does not guarantee error-free performance under this Privacy Policy. To the extent permissible under law, TIO shall not be liable for any incidental, consequential or punitive damages relating to this Privacy Policy.

We use a security plugin as a security monitoring and auditing plugin to create a log of data about the ways that our website is used by those who have login access to it. This information is collected and retained by the web site administrator for security and auditing purposes.

The plugin logs a timestamped record of when a logged-in user takes the following actions:

  • Logs in and out;
  • Creates, deletes or modifies or views a post (be it a page, post or a post with a custom type);
  • Creates, deletes or modifies tags;
  • Creates, modifies, deletes, or approves comments;
  • Creates, modifies or deletes widgets and menus;
  • Creates, modifies (this including changing the password), deletes a user or views another users’ profile;
  • Installs, activates, deactivates, or uninstalls a theme or plugin;
  • Changes system settings such as reading, general, or permalinks;
  • Takes actions on a bbPress forum such as creating a new forum, deleting entries, changing forum settings, etc;

The timestamped record includes the following information:

  • The user’s login name
  • The user’s actual name as entered when their account was set up
  • The user’s WordPress role (Author, editor, etc)
  • The IP address from which the user accessed the site
  • The time and date of each action detailed above while the user was logged in.

The data captured by the plugin is stored by the web site administrator solely for security and auditing purposes.

Information captured by the security plugin is accessed only by TIO and is stored in the backend of the website on the website’s database. Information captured by the plugin is not shared with third parties except in the case of law enforcement requests.

Changes to this privacy policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of the last updated date and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.

We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the TIO website after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.

If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the email address you have provided us, or by placing a prominent notice on our website.
