From Ana Hristić, MA, MSW, CSWA, Training and Education Coordinator, Trauma Informed Oregon

As the holiday season and end of the year is upon us, it is a good reminder for me to notice where in my work (and life) I recognize joy and gratitude.

I found so much inspiration, joy, and gratitude in facilitating our second cohort for Train the Trainer in October. Eighteen amazing individuals came from all over Oregon to spend two and a half days immersed in the content and art of delivering Foundations of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) training. Trauma Informed Oregon’s (TIO) Train the Trainer is not a certification program or formal endorsement by TIO, but instead an opportunity to inform one’s facilitation and training, and connect with others who are interested in implementing trauma informed care training in their communities. Individuals across job titles and industries (including education, physical health, behavioral health, youth services, spirituality, and more) as well as across the state (including Linn, Baker, Washington, Josephine, Clackamas, Multnomah, Deschutes, and Clatsop Counties) focused on not only strengthening their individual understanding of trauma informed care, but also building connections with each other as they explored topics like the impact of identity on facilitation.

At the conclusion of the experience, I felt enriched and invigorated, knowing that 18 more stewards of TIC are planted in the rich soil of their communities to provide expertise, support, and training. Many graduates have already delivered trainings and have refined and informed the curriculum with their own professional and lived experience. What a delight!
