square bulletProviding Trauma Informed Care to Autistic Adults

Disabled individuals and individuals with disabilities experience high rates of interpersonal violence and other negative life experiences which can lead to trauma. Additionally, due to systemic ableism and other forms of oppression individuals experiencing disability can have difficulty getting access to supportive services. An important part of providing trauma informed care to members of disability communities is to understand the unique disability culture to which they belong. These resources were developed by Morrigan Hunter, a former MSW intern at Trauma Informed Oregon. Morrigan identifies as Autistic and many of these resources are focused on providing trauma informed care to the Autistic community. We hope that these resources will encourage conversation and discussion about the importance of providing trauma informed care to all disability communities.
